Charities Information Bureau (CIB) is leading the Funding and Financing project on behalf of the Consortium. The work is centrally based in Devizes with services also provided at local development agency (LDA) offices, such as the Councils for Voluntary Service, to meet local demand and preferences for delivery.
The project aims to provide high quality funding and finance information, advice, support and training to voluntary and community groups. The work funded under ChangeUp has covered the following:
Locally:
· Access to a funding adviser dedicated to a particular district (Bath& North East Somerset, Kennet, North Wiltshire, Salisbury, West Wiltshire, Swindon,) who can work with groups on finding funders, making funding applications, planning fundraising and advising on the best way to make approaches to funders. This service has been provided either through one to one advice meetings or regular surgeries set up in various places
· More people signed up to use CIB’s databases of funders via CIB’s website, free of charge
· Half day training sessions around the districts on different aspects of raising funds and keeping organisations going
· Some new simple and straightforward guidance notes on fundraising
Regionally:
· Finding out what groups want from funding advisers and funders through research into what groups want and need
· Improved quality of funding advice available to groups through a four-day training course programme for funding advisers
· Improved quality of grant-making processes by funders through a piloted four-day training course for funders
· Getting funders and funding advisers talking through two one-day events held in Bodmin and Weston Super Mare, which, longer-term, will encourage better support for groups
Future plans for the work of the project include:
· Work mentioned above will continue as further funding becomes available to support it
· Development of community accountancy services locally. These services will support treasurers in their work.
· Linking up with social enterprise partners
