Volunteer Centre Swindon is the lead organisation for the Volunteering in Wiltshire & Swindon Project . The aim of the project is to ensure a quality, consistent approach to volunteering infrastructure across Wiltshire and Swindon.
There are 5 volunteer centres managed by Volunteer Centre Swindon:

The main roles of volunteer centres are:
- Brokerage – matching individuals to a diverse range of volunteering opportunities
- Marketing volunteering opportunities – across the sub-region
- Developing a range of volunteering opportunities
- Good practice advice for volunteer-involving organisations
- Campaigning for and on behalf of volunteering and developing policy
- Strategic development of volunteering infrastructure
We offer individuals a huge choice of volunteering opportunities to suit individuals’ interests and time available. There are opportunities to volunteer in the day, in the evening, at night or at weekends with older people, young people, those with disabilities, with environment – the list is endless. There are large national charities, statutory groups and very small, community groups that all need volunteers. The staff at the volunteer centres can help find the right opportunity for just about everyone.
We offer volunteer-involving organisations advice about working with volunteers, things to consider when setting up and running a volunteer programme – ranging from insurance requirements, recruitiment, retention and supervision of volunteers and out-of-pocket expenses that organsations need to pay to volunteers.
We help organisations to write succinct and attractive volunteer role descriptions and we market the opportunities through a variety of media eg latest vacancies, press articles, posters, displays, talks and by attending events.
The Volunteering in Wiltshire and Swindon Project ensures that the sub-region is active with regard to "Building on Success" – Volunteering England’s strategy for volunteering 2004-2014. Through WISC volunteering interests are represented in the Local Area Agreements for both Wiltshire and Swindon.
